Development Coll
is entering into
a loan finance
agreement with a
company called
Social
Investment
Scotland, in
order to
facilitate cash
flow for the
project. Cash
flow poses a
problem because
45% of funding
will be paid in
arrears. Over
the course of
the next two
years, we
estimate the
cost of the loan
will be in the
region of £26k.
A fundraising
strategy is
being devised.
In the meantime,
if you would
like to make a
donation, or
organise a
fundraising
event, we would
be most
grateful. Please
contact Alison
Fraser if you
would like to
organise an
event:

Ceilidh in Gorthleck,

Our mainland supporters have
been working hard! Hazel and Alistair Campbell
of “Katina’s” on Shore St, ran Scottish Country
Dance evening in Inverness-Shire. This is
Hazel’s report:
We held a Midsummer Scottish Country Dance on
Friday 18th June 2010 in Stratherrick Public
Hall, Gorthleck, Inverness-Shire in aid of “An
Cridhe”. Gorthleck is a tiny village situated
about 700 feet above sea level on the west side
of the Monadliath mountains in the south Loch
Ness area about 20 miles from Inverness.
After a glass (or two!) of fizzy wine, over
sixty dancers, our regular dance partners
hailing from the city of Inverness, all round
Loch Ness, the Black Isle even some from East
Sutherland danced the night away to the
excellent Jock Fraser Band – Jock on accordion
and Fiona on fiddle.
What did we dance? Machine without Horses,
Johnnie Walker, Butterscotch and Honey, Shiftin
Bobbins, Luckenbooth Brooch, the Laird of
Milton’s Daughter – to name but a few, finishing
with Mairi’s Wedding and the Duke of Perth.
Son-in-law Laic, Hazel and friends made the food
and we had a wonderful feast of quiche, blinis,
felafils, sausages and sausage rolls and salads
followed by large bowls of strawberries,
meringues, cupcakes, and traybakes!
We had 29 prizes to raffle and 5 to auction,
mainly donated by the islanders of Coll. Books,
a bowl, beautiful Coll crafts, and gifts,
preserves, honey, lots of chocolate and wine, a
lobster and prawns! Local businesses Whitebridge
Hotel, Dores Inn and La Tortilla Asesina (a
Spanish restaurant in Inverness) donated meal
vouchers.
Along with donations we were amazed to have made
£1200 for An Cridhe from such a small company.
Our sincere thanks are due to all the islanders
and others who most kindly donated the prizes;
to all those who made the delicious food; to all
the dancers who came and gave so generously to
the raffle and auction; and to 3 of our sons
Alasdair, Ruairidh and Eòghann, and Laic who
spent the whole evening in the kitchen serving,
washing up and clearing up afterwards.
Lastly and especially to Jock and Fiona who
played free of charge for the benefit of An
Cridhe giving us a wonderful evening of superb
music. |
